Overview of the role
Artpark and IISc are at the forefront of creating Indic language datasets and building AI models to ensure inclusivity in India’s digital ecosystem. We are seeking an Operations Manager to lead and manage operations for our flagship project, Vaani.
Project Vaani focuses on collecting speech data from all over India through multiple partners, which is then processed and curated at IISc. The data undergoes several stages of curation, including manual checks managed with the help of curators sourced from the respective districts. As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire process, from managing partners, the QC Process and ensuring the timely delivery of quality-checked datasets.
Key Responsibilities
Ownership of Project Operations:
Lead the strategy & operational aspects of Project Vaani
Manage the data pipelines and ensure smooth flow of data from collection partners to IISc.
Team and Vendor Management:
Oversee and lead a team of ~25 data curation associates responsible for quality checks of audio and transcription data.
Serve as the SPOC for external vendors and partners who collect speech data.
Manage the day-to-day operations of audio and transcription quality control, ensuring high standards are maintained.
Process Optimization and Scale-up:
Design and implement systems to scale up operations as the project expands.
Systemize and optimize current processes to improve efficiency and quality.
Delivery ownership of the operations:
Ensure all quality-checked datasets are delivered on time to meet project deadlines.
Maintain and enhance communication and workflows between all stakeholders involved in the project.
Requirements
Educational Background: Undergraduate degree with 3-5 years experience or an MBA with 2-3 years of experience, working in operations, preferably within a startup or fast-paced environment.
Ownership mindset: Self-driven, self-starter who looks to find problems and solve them in interest of the organization. If you are one to work when told, it wouldn't be a good fit.
Skills and Experience:
Experience in managing on-ground operations is a must. Experience in a startup is recommended but not mandatory.
Comfortable in working in a dynamic and uncertain environment, with an ability to adapt quickly.
Experience in leading operational teams, with focus on data-driven decisions
Strong leadership and team management skills, with an ownership mindset to take initiative and drive projects and targets.
Any experience with running Python scripts for operations or process automation is a plus, but not mandatory. We welcome ones who can pick up on the job.
