Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview of the role

Ever looked at a planetary gearbox and thought, "What if the pinion gear was plastic?" Or stared at a machine and felt the itch to tweak, optimize, and make it better? We’re a team building mobile robots and attachments, and we need hands-on engineers who love getting their hands dirty (sometimes literally). If you're the type who enjoys designing, breaking, and refining things until they work perfectly, then you’re in the right place.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Design & CAD Mastery – Develop 3D models in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or your weapon of choice. Apply GD&T, tolerances, and DFM/DFA to make sure your designs aren’t just cool but actually manufacturable..

2. Optimization & Manufacturing Readiness – Design for manufacturing & assembly (DFM/DFA) while balancing weight, cost, and ease of production.

3. Simulation & Validation – Conduct simulations, analyze forces, perform finite element analysis (FEA), and stress-test components for reliability. If something doesn’t work tweak it until it does.

4. Material Selection – Work with our materials team to select the right materials based on strength, weight, and cost.

5. Technical Documentation – Maintain structured documentation of design changes, revisions, and progress.

6. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration – Work closely with robotics engineers to align designs with functional requirements and smart mechanical solutions.

7. Engineering Calculations – Perform torque, force, and motion calculations to validate designs. Utilize multibody dynamics to assess full system performance.

Software Proficiency

1. CAD: SolidWorks, Fusion 360

2. Simulation & Analysis: ANSYS, Altair, MSC Adams, RecurDyn

Requirements & Skills

1. Passion for automobile/robotics design and mechanical systems

2. Strong understanding of mechanisms, kinematics, and dynamics

3. Proficiency in CAD, FEA, and multibody dynamics simulation

4. 3-4 years of Real-world design and manufacturing experience
